THE DISTRIBUTOR AND CONTACT BREAKER

Special Instructions for Alternative Type

Although the distributor and contact breaker mechanism is essentially the same in principle on all current Daimler models, it differs in detail design on a certain proportion of the cars, from that illustrated in the Instruction Book.

The alternative design is easily identified by means of the illustrations herewith, and the following general instructions for maintenance apply to this type.

Quarterly Inspection (See maintenance chart in Instruction Book).

Release spring clips U (Fig. 1) and lift cover B to expose distributor. See that the inside of the cover is clean and that the central carbon brush C moves freely.

Lift off distributor arm D to expose contact breaker. With contacts separated to the full extent by the cam (Fig. 3b). the thickness gauge on the special spanner should be a tight fit in the gap.

Pull cap off oiler at the bottom of the casing and fill oil hole to lubricate shaft assembly. Put one drop of oil, but not more, on pivot N (Fig. 3a) carrying contact breaker arm.

Put a bit of hard grease, the size of a match head, on the leading side of slipper L on contact breaker arm.

Contacts should be bright and flat. If dark or rough they should be cleaned carefully with a fine file.
