ENGINE LUBRICATION.
Failure of the oil pump to function properly will be indicated by lamp A showing green under normal conditions of engine speed (it will show green in any case at very low speeds). The oil level in the base chamber is shown by the indicator B, which is visible under the bonnet. The base chamber is replenished with Daimler Engine Oil through the filler hole C, the cap on which is connected to a level cock D, through which oil escapes when more than a sufficient quantity has been poured in. Always replenish when the engine is hot so that the oi1 may flow freely and take care that the car is not tilted either sideways or fore and aft. It is preferable to keep the level fairly constant by adding a pint or a quart of oil at regular intervals. In the tool kit is a metal hose which can be attached to the oil can in order to avoid splash. To drain the oil from the engine base chamber remove the plug E. The base chamber can then be washed cut by pouring paraffin through filler hole C.
TO CLEAN OIL FILTER.

Stop the engine. Unscrew the nut F and withdraw the flange with its gauze-covered frame. Wash this thoroughly with paraffin and replace.

THE OIL PRIMER.

Attached to the carburettor in a position where it can be controlled by the economy lever is an oil primer G that opens just before, and remains open with, the petrol primer. Oil is sucked up into the induction pipe to lubricate the upper ends of the sleeves and to neutralise the washing effect of the petrol used in priming. In very cold weather when the oil may be too stiff to flow, the induction pipe can be warmed with warm oil through cocks H whilst starting the engine.
