Final cross country

The last races of the SYAL cross country league take place next Sunday, 3 December, at Oswestry.

All those coming to the races should use the nominated parking facility at Marches School Morda Road, Oswestry, SY11 2AR, accessed from Morda Road. Follow the footpath from the car park to the top of the school, past the Sportshall and through the gate, crossing the road to the course at Oswestry School.

1.15 U11B 1500m
1.30 U15G 3000m/ U17W 4000m
1.55 U13B 3000m
2.15 U15B 4000m/ U17M 5000m
2.40 U13G 2000m

Medal and trophies will be presented as soon as possible after the final race.

After our strong home performance we could do with another good turnout!

Meanwhile we have had a number of athletes on county duty, running for Shropshire at an intercounties fixture in Warwickshire: congratulations to Edith, Ruari and Lucy. Manali and Louix would have been running, were it not for the National Biathlon taking place on the same day, and Beth was competing at the Liverpool leg of the National Cross Challenge.

Second sportshall competition

The second match of the series was held on 19 November at Wenlock. It was perhaps a less successful day than the first match – none of our teams came first, although the U13B, U15G and U15B all got second, and we had a strong all round performance.

This keeps the U13B and U15G (just!) in first place, and keeps the club in second overall. The girls have, however, slipped to third, a mere 1/2 point behind Shrewsbury.

As always this league is very tight. The next match is also at Wenlock on Sunday 14 January.

Wenlock Cross Country results

Well, it was a horrible day but let’s not think about the weather.

Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who helped with setting up, marshalling, clearing away and who helped Liz with the catering. It makes a massive difference to how smoothly the event runs and it really couldn’t happen without you.

We had a number of runners who were braving cross country for the first time (and hopefully not the last) meaning we had full teams in the U11B and U13B for the first time this season and an amazing 13 U11Gs. Many thanks to them and their families.

Our girls continued their impressive season. There were individual places for Beth, Edith and (in her best ever run) Manali and in the team competitions the U15G cemented their second and the U13G and U17W were also second on the day.

After 3 races the U13G are 1st, and the U15G and U17W are second, so all are looking at team medals. Most excitingly of all the girls overall are sitting in 1st place with Bridgnorth just 7 points behind us – it really couldn’t be closer! Overall as a club we are 3rd.

The last race is on the 3rd December at Oswestry. It would be fantastic to see you there!

Wenlock cross country

This Sunday  – November 5 – is the third of the SYAL cross country league, our home event at Wenlock.

We are unfortunately still looking for volunteers, to set up, marshal and help with catering. Please contact Ian if you can help.

Obviously we want a good turnout of Wenlock athletes. If you only run in one race all season – this should be it!
