Next season’s fixtures

From September we turn our attention to cross country and sportshall, with four league competitions in each. They all take place on Sundays between September and February.

Cross country races are open to all club athletes and we would encourage as many as possible to run, not only to gain points for their team, but to help with personal fitness and stamina. Cross country is unique because, in the legendary words of John: ‘we start as a team, and we finish as a team’.

Sportshall competitions (one of our strongest areas) are for invited athletes only.

Both events give you the opportunity to compete for the county.

Wenlock Olympian Games 2017

Entries are now being taken for this year’s athletics, which take place on Sunday 9 July. We think of this as our ‘home’ event and encourage all members to take part. It is great day out, with plenty to see and good food on offer. There is a link to the entry form below, and we will also be handing them out at training.

Juniors might also be interested in the biathlon, which takes place on Saturday 8 July, and we always have a good turnout of seniors in the triathlon and road race. You can find full details of all games events at

We also provide catering for the games, which provides us with much of our funding for the year. Requests for volunteers will be going out nearer the time, so please help if you can.

First T+F competition Thurs 27 April

The first SYAL competition takes place this Thursday at Telford athletics track at Oakengates Leisure Centre New Road Wrockwardine Wood TELFORD TF2 7AB. There is plenty of parking on site, although it does get busy.

E mail and card invitations have been sent out. If you have not replied please do so asap, as team managers need to finalise teams.

The competition starts at 6.45, but we ask athletes to arrive by 6.30. There should be a Wenlock tent on the far side of the stand, where you should register your arrival, collect your number and make a note of what events you’re entered for and when they take place (there is also a timetable below). Club vests must be worn – we will have some to borrow on the night in an emergency. Each event has an A )number 5) and B (number 55) athlete – you need to be wearing the correct number.

It is usually chilly by the end of the evening, as it starts to get dark, so please bring warm clothing. Once your events are finished your are free to leave, but please check with team managers before you do – there are sometimes injuries on the night which require us to make changes.
