Shropshire county championships 2019

The county champs took place on 11 May at Telford. We had a small band of mostly younger athletes who got the badge out, so well done to Abi, Emily, Lois, Lucy, Leonie and Ray.

Special mention to Oliver gold (60m) and bronze (600m), Tristan  silver (LJ), Beth silver (1500m), Alexander bronze (60m).

Many of our athletes will also be taking part in the Shropshire Schools Champs in June.

Finally a belated but well deserved congratulations to Oliver who took the county U10 cross country title back in March.

First SYAL track and field

The first competition of the season was held on 2 May at Telford.

Unfortunately the U11B were the only full team we managed to get out on the night, which inevitably impacted on the results.

There were individual wins for Beau, Olly, Lois, Ophelia and Sam, so congratulations to them.

The U11B took second place in the night and club is lying in 3rd place overall.

The second competition will take place at Shrewsbury on 27 June.

Sportshall Championships

The county sportshall championships were held on Saturday 2 March at Wenlock. We had over 20 athletes competing, so congratulations to everyone who represented the club. Special mention to Cerys, Jasmin, Ray and Richard (bronze); Eva and Leonie (silver); Oliver (silver and bronze) and Shona (gold)

Summer track and field

There are 4 SYAL T+F competitions held on Thursday evenings:
2 May Telford
23 May Cosford
27 June Shrewsbury
18 July Shrewsbury

We are hosting the Cosford meeting this year, so help with organisation will be much appreciated.

These are club competitions with team trophies available, and athletes are invited to compete. If your son/daughter receives a card/ email, please let us know as soon as possible whether they are able to attend.

The Shropshire county champs take place at Telford on Saturday 11 May (with some distance races held on the evening of Wednesday 8 May). Athletes have to enter this as individuals. Full details and entry form http://www.telfordathleticclub.co.uk/track-field/county-championships

Presentation Evening

The annual presentation evening will be held on Saturday 6 April at Priory Hall in Wenlock. This year we are lucky enough to have Micky Bushell MBE, as our guest speaker, and all current club members and their families are warmly invited. Further details will be given out at training. Please return any trophies as soon as possible ready for engraving.

Final sportshall positions

The final sportshall match of the season was held at Oswestry on 10 February. The U13G and U13B were third on the day, and the U15B were second. This meant the U13G and U15B finished the league in 3rd; the U13B in 2nd and the boys were 3rd overall, helping to get the club 3rd place. Not really a vintage year it what has traditionally been our strongest competition. However, we do have a number of athletes selected for county sportshall duty. The individual sportshall county championships is this Saturday (2 March), so hopefully we’ll also see some Wenlock success there.

Wenlock sportshall results

The third sportshall match was held on 13 January at Wenlock. We had three individual wins amongst the boys and a good turnout with all but the U15s fielding full teams. Congratulations to the U11B who came first on the day. We also had two seconds (U13B and U15B) and a third (U13G). By my reckoning, this puts the boys in contention for the title, with both our U13 teams currently lying in second place.

Positions can change significantly in sportshall and there are team trophies, as well as overall boys, girls and club, up for grabs. The last match takes place at Oswestry on Sunday 10 February. Invitations will be going out, so please try to attend if you are selected.
