Final Cross Country results

Oswestry in December can be pretty bleak, but not on Sunday. The Wenlock flags fluttered gently and the club runners gave their all to produce one of the best cross country results in years.wenlock success

We had three individual medallists: Beth winning every race to take the U13G title, Edith with U15G silver and Ruari getting bronze in the U13B.

We had four medal winning teams: the U15B (Louix, Sam, Charlie and Henry) surprised themselves with bronze, the U15G (Edith, Manali, Eva and Hester) and U17W (Lizzie, Amelia and Maisie) both got silver and the U13G (Beth, Lucy, Rebecca, Leonie and Aimee) took the title. The U11G missed out on third by a mere two points.

We also took the overall girls trophy, securing it by just 7 points ahead of Bridgnorth, and emphasising not only how important it is to get runners out, but how much of a team sport cross country is. Every single girl who ran in any of the four races helped us to get that trophy (Emily, Evie, Thea, Ella, Ophelia, Eleanor, Rosie, Flossy, Lois, Jasmine, Zoe, Sara, Sophie, Beth, Lucy, Rebecca, Leonie, Aimee,¬†Edith, Manali, Eva, Hester, Lizzie, Amelia and Maisie). It’s the first time I can remember our girls taking the title and shows what strength and commitment we have in our distance running.

The club finished third overall.

Many thanks to all parents, guardians and family members who transported and supported, and a special mention to Dean and Matt who have motivated and inspired all the runners.

Remember that the county champs for U13+ takes place on 6 Jan. Please contact Dean if you want to enter – we have a chance of more team medals there.
