THE DISTRIBUTOR AND CONTACT BREAKER.

Quarterly Inspection (see Maintenance Chart)

Release spring clips and lift off cover to expose Distributor. See that the inside of the cover is clean and dry and that the central carbon brush moves freely.

Lift off the distributor arm to give clearer view of contact breaker. With contacts separated to the full extent by cam, the thickness gauge on the special spanner should be a tight fit in the gap.

Unscrew cap of greaser below bottom of casing and refill with grease to lubricate shaft assembly.
Put one drop of oil, but not more, on the pivot of the contact breaker arm. Put two drops of oil in the container holding the lubricating wick for the contact arm slipper.

Contacts should be bright and flat. If dark or rough they should be cleaned carefully with a fine file.

IGNITION PLUG GAP.

If the engine misses when running idle or pulling light, widen the sparking plug gap, If it misses at high speed or when pulling on heavy load at low speed, slightly close the gap.

LUBRICATION OF DYNAMO AND STARTER MOTOR

Re-packing of the ballraces with high melting point grease is only necessary about once a year, Never use oil or ordinary grease. The bearing at the commutator end of the starter motor is lubricated from a hollow nut in the end cover. The starter gear drive should never be oiled or lubricated in any way it is self-cleaning, but should be carefully wiped if it becomes very dirty.
